A bat survey may be requested as part of your planning application for works on certain types of buildings particularly old structures, barn conversions and demolition work. However bats can occupy any structure if it is suitable including trees. Bats can be surveyed at any time of the year, however bat activity is best recorded between May to September.
It must be remembered that bats are protected; therefore it is illegal to disturb or harm these creatures, either intentionally or unintentionally. In the UK bat roosts are protected even when the animals are not present and as bats are very secretive creatures they can hide away in the smallest crevices – our experienced professional ecologist can determine if there are any signs of use.
We will include in our survey details of other nesting birds as these are also protected.
